My experience with blogging this past week.

Well, I have to say that it has been a learning experience. As stated in my previously post http://sololuff10.blogspot.com/2013/09/my-experince-creating-blog.html, this is all new to me.

Embedding images/videos has been easy. Mainly I used images from Google and videos from You Tube. One picture that I did try to add told me that the URL was not valid & that I would need to check to see if it starts with http:// or https://, so that's something to watch for.

When I needed help I tried  a number of things, I went to the Blogger getting started guide, searched You Tube for a video or just asked Google my question.

Each day I'm feeling a little more comfortable with each page & it has been fun! Learning should be fun, right?

Finally, I got an RSS feed added.

This morning I added 2 RSS feeds to my blog.

Taking a little more time exploring searching for images/videos to add.

Pretty serious looking!

See if you think the library featured in this video qualifies as current and relevant in today society?

Here's my 1st uploaded video.

I have chosen one from You Tube that gives an introduction on how to set up your own blog.

On to my next challenge.......setting up a RSS feed.

My goal this morning is to add images/videos to my blog.

Well, that was easy.........now it's on to a video..........

Advantages and disadvantages of libraries blogging.

Blogging is a 2 way communication mechanism that has great advantages for libraries in today’s world. It is another form of social networking that allows libraries the reach out to its patrons and vice versa. Its advantages I think, certainly out way the disadvantages. For example, it’s certainly a way to improve awareness & promote the services/events being offered to our communities. As well, it’s a way to share information whether it is about a period of time that the library will be closed due to renovations, or an announcement about a staff member retiring. The advantages can also be great for internal communication by allowing librarians from different regions the ability to gain information & ideas that can be applied to their own location. It may be an idea for a great story hour program or information on how to keep your library a vital member of your community.  I think libraries that do blog are seen by its patrons and especially it younger to middle age patrons as up-to-date/current and not behind the times. If blogging is what patrons want, libraries should progress to meet their technology needs.
As for the disadvantages right now all I can see is that it has to contain interesting & worthy information to meet a need(s) or if not the patron(s) may not follow, therefore making time and effort wasted.

My experince creating my 1st blog.

Well, as far as my experience goes..... it's taken me approximately 2 hrs to gets this far.......not funny! I've never set up a blog and have to say it's been only a small number of times that I have taken the time to looked at another persons blog. I looked at the 2 websites provided by my instructor and Blogger.com looked like the most user friendly. I did go through the tutorial but for some reason my set up didn't go as smooth as I thought it would. I guess the main thing that I did wrong was post my question in the title of my blog section. To see if this could be changed, I went back & asked Google if /how this could be edited. Even though the instructions looked simple it still took me some time to make the change.
